Five year old Adriaan is sad. His beloved dog Spottie has died and now he's going to buy him a coffin. Together with his father he goes to the local carpenter. In the store there's also Adriaan's schoolmate Teun, who is carrying around his guinea pig. When Teun starts to ask questions about Spottie and makes remarks about death, Adriaan gets angry. But he allows Teun to come over to his house and see the body of Spottie.

Five year old Adriaan is sad. His beloved dog Spottie has died and now he's going to buy him a coffin. Together with his father he goes to the local carpenter. In the store there's also Adriaan's schoolmate Teun, who is carrying around his guinea pig. When Teun starts to ask questions about Spottie and makes remarks about death, Adriaan gets angry. But he allows Teun to come over to his house and see the body of Spottie.
Then Adriaan, his parents, his little sister and Teun go out to bury Spottie in the forest of the Rabbers family.
Adriaan gets angry again if he hears that Mr. Rabbers doesn't agree with Mrs. Rabbers allowing Spottie to be buried in their forest. "He should be thrown in a container himself", Adriaan says.
After father finished digging a hole for the coffin, Adriaan should say some nice words about Spottie, Teun says. But Adriaan won't speak, because it's obvious that he loved Spottie very much.
When the family returns after the funeral, Adriaan is sitting at the grave. The wind whispers through the trees.
