8th International TV/Producers' Seminar Chiang Mai (Thailand) 17 - 21 October 2009
The 8th TV/Producers' Seminar will take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand
From the 17th to the 21st of October, the Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai will host the Congress of SIGNIS, the World Catholic Association for Communication. It is in the context of this Congress that our "TVdesk" will organize the 8th TV/Producers Seminar (1). It will be an opportunity to show your selected television programmes not only to the participants of the seminar, but to all those attending the congress, members of SIGNIS, leaders of Catholic media institutions from all parts of the world.
The emphasis of the seminar will be on childrens' programmes and on creativity.
The programme :
This seminar will last 5 days (Thailand is worthy of a longer stay!) We invite you to join Chiang Mai (there are international connections via Bangkok) on Friday October 16.
On Saturday October 17, the participants are invited to a special cultural orientation day and exposure to Thailand's Northern Capital (day trip). Don't miss this day by arriving late. Our guests have promissed to share their cultural richnesses... nothing to do with artificial tourists tours... I'm sure, you will be enriched by the experience. Bring your cameras...
The seminar continues on Sunday 18, Monday 19 and Wednesday 20.
We have aleady collected a serie of programmes on children, childrens' rights or remarkable for their creativity. We invite you to discover two of the programmes already received: (click on the image to open the streaming)
The first one, "Patrick's Kingdom" is a production of KRO, the Catholic television station of the Netherlands. The story is about the 10-year old Patrick from Suriname, who is secretely in love with the prettiest girl in his class, the turkish/dutch Yahide. (The programme shows the multicultural aspect of society in the country). When teacher Rob is giving out the parts of the Christmasmusical, Patrick desperately wants to play the leadingpart of Jozef, because Yahide is going to play Maria. Unfortunately he is choosen to play Baltasar, the black king. Patrick won't give up and tries to find ways to play Jozef anyhow. Will he succeed to stand side by side Yahide on stage ?
The second programme we invite you to discover is about "The Garbage children of Cebu" in the Philippines. It is part of a documentary serie produced by Steyl Medien (Germany) under the title "Limitless". The misery of those who bring up their children on the garbage tips is shocking. The sole ray of hope on this burning Philippine garbage tip is the German priest, Heinz Kulüke. He is, in fact, a university professor of philosophy - however his encounters with the garbage people have changed his life.
On Wednesday 21th, the results of the seminar will be presented to all participants of the Congress. In the evening, we will celebrate during a gala dinner the 80 years of SIGNIS.
